Freeholder Seat Filled

Marcus || October 17th, 2016

On Wednesday, October 12th, almost 200 committee members from the Cape May County GOP met to elect a new member of the Cape May County Board of Freeholders, with the most number of votes going to Upper Township Committeeman, Jeff Pierson. Pierson is to fill the unexpired term of Freeholder Kristine Gabor who retired from her position this September after taking a new job out of state.

The committee members, under the supervision of County Clerk Rita Fulginiti, met at the Old Cape May County Courthouse Building in Cape May Court House to make the important decision between four willing candidates.

Pierson, who received 99 votes, is set to be sworn in as a freeholder during a meeting on October 25th. He was elected to the Upper Township Committee in 2014 with a term ending in 2017. He will resign his seat there to act as a freeholder. His freeholder seat will be up for reelection in November 2017, along with the seat of Freeholder Will Morey.

Pierson is a former commandant of the New Jersey Youth Challenge Program at Fort Dix, retiring in 2014. He served in the Army and New Jersey Army National Guard for 42 years and retired in 2003 as a brigadier general. The Marmora resident currently serves as deputy chief of the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company and is the veterans interment officer for the county’s Veterans Bureau.
